Glacier and Lava 4X4 Tour
Popular guided tour
Join our Glacier and Lava 4X4 Tour if you want to discover some of the most beautiful natural landscapes of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, one of the best and most spectacular regions in Iceland.
We start our Glacier and Lava 4X4 Tour from our office in the fishing town of Grundarfjorður, home of the world-famous Kirkjufell mountain that was also featured in the HBO‘s series Game of Thrones.
We will drive along the northern coast of Snæfellsnes Peninsula towards Ólafsvík and take a mountain pass to reach the root of the majestic Snæfellsjökull Glacier. Here you will jump aboard our orange snow-cat for a short and fun adventure on the glacier itself. This beautiful glacier is believed to be one of the energy points of the earth and it is also where the passage to the center of the Earth was found in Jules Verne‘s Journey to the center of the Earth. The views of the peninsula from the glacier are spectacular with nice weather.
After the glacier tour, we will continue our drive through the beautiful Eynsteinsdalur Valley, where we will have the chance to explore some wonderful lava formations and waterfalls as we make our way to Skarðsvík, a golden sandy beach on the northern tip of Snæfellsnes Peninsula. In a country like Iceland famous for its black beaches, Skarðsvík really is an exceptional natural gem. After visiting the beach we will drive the gravel road to Öndverðarnes, the outermost point of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, which was once a fishing station is a fascinating place. Here you will see the iconic isolated orange lighthouse surrounded by lava fields and the Atlantic Ocean.
Our Glacier and Lava 4X4 Tour will then continue to Hólahólar, an interesting cluster of volcanic craters that looks like an amphitheater. With some luck, we might hear elves cheering for us from the hills of the crater.
We will then continue our drive through the scenic roads os Snæfellsnes Peninsula and make our way back to Grundarfjörður, where our Glacier and Lava 4X4 Tour will end.
